Pokejo's booth at UT game update
Going strong, but we need volunteers for Sept 26th.
Our next booth is this Saturday (the 26th) at 2:30.
Unfortunately, that day is also a marching contest AND homecoming.
Since the students will not be able to work, we ask any parents not volunteering at the marching contest to consider working the booth.
In past years when band parents could not fill the slots, we have had to turn to other groups to help. We have to share the money earned in proportion to how many volunteers each group provides,
so every individual from band who volunteers helps!
Please contact Cam or Karlan Witt if you are interested in helping. The commitment would be roughly from 12 to 5:30 or 6 on Saturday. We need volunteers to help with lots of activities (only four will cashier), so we can use any help. Cam.witt@wintegra.com or karlan.witt@cambiainfo.com.
2008 Pok-e-Jo's Fundraiser
Volunteer to work a Pok-e-Jo’s booth. Please contact Karlan or Cam Witt and let them know which game you will be able to work. This is an excellent project for a parent and student to work together. You get into the game free! We really need everyone’s participation and all students are being asked to work at least ONE game! We have 6 games this year, and there are BAND/AHS conflicts on Sept 26 and Oct 10. If you are not going to go to contest with the band, try to work one of these days!

Volunteering at the UT Home Game for Pok-e-Jo’s
One of the Anderson Band’s fundraisers is to work the Pok-e-Jo’s sandwich booth at UT home games. All band students are asked to work ONE game, with a parent or other willing adult.
What does it involve? Inventory, making sandwiches, serving bottled water and soft drinks, selling candy and popcorn. We run the cash registers and take a closing inventory too. Occasionally seeing the Horns play and ALWAYS having fun talking to the fans! We work in TWO shifts. One shift arrives early and sets up. That shift can leave just after halftime. The second shift arrives before game time and cleans up, then is usually able to leave after the 3rd quarter. Estimated shift time is 6 hours.
It is hot, so dress for heat. Wear an Anderson Band Shirt, shorts, Tennis Shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and bring a baseball hat. We have to wear them to conform to health codes. It’s a great idea to bring a bandana that you can soak in ice-water and wear when you are hot.
Everyone who has worked says that it is fun, it is hot and it’s a lot of work. But, you do get to experience game day fun at UT, see some of the game if you wish and make some money for the band. This can offset costs of band trips! We get to eat all the free Pok-e-Jo’s we want, plus popcorn, sodas and bottled water (just not candy).
Details and 'the Schedule'
It is GOOD to carpool. We need 12-14 people at EVERY GAME.
- There will be a gate where we all need to enter (with the construction we don’t know which one yet-it's a good idea to take the cell phone number of others who are working there with you)
- 12 people (6 students and 6 adults) are needed to work each game; the shifts are 6 hours long.
- First Shift comes on 4 hours before game. The second shift comes on 3 hours before game. The first shift should be able to leave shortly after half time, and the second shift should leave at the beginning of 4th quarter after the clean up is finished and checked. The stand closes at the end of the 3rd quarter.
- Jobs are: 4 adults to work cash register, 3 students to work soda machines, 2 people to stock sandwiches, 1 stocker of other supplies and 2 people making sandwiches.
PARKING; you’re kind of on your own. Some suggestions from a seasoned UT Football Game Attendee; Medical Arts Square at the northeast corner of Dean Keeton and Medical Arts St is a parking lot run by the Northeast Austin Optimist we don’t know what the cost will be, but it’s around $10 or $15 and it is a great charity to support. We have good luck around Eastwood Park on Harris Parkway which runs into Dean Keeton. BE PARKED AT LEAST 30 minutes before shift to get into stadium on time. There are also shuttle busses from the intramural fields and other locations. It is GOOD to carpool.
- The Pok-e-Jo’s stand is on the Northwest corner of the stadium on the 3rd level.
- The gates to the stadium open 2 hours before game time.
- Shown below is the schedule as it now stands. You will note there are some start times and others will be announced later by UT closer to game day.
