What is Winter Guard?
In the spring semester, Dance Guard members have the option of competing in Winter Guard, which runs from January through April. Winter Guard performs indoors to
recorded music. Winter Guard competes against other high school teams in the
Texas Color Guard Circuit.
The Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) offers a competitive outlet during
winter for
color guard, indoor marching percussion and concert percussion
units with
a variety of competitive classes ranging from the first year unit to
the seasoned competitor. The contests follow the rules and
criteria of Winter Guard International (WGI) and are judged by both local
and national judges trained to use WGI's adjudication criteria. Color
Guard Contest Rules and Class descriptions are available on the TCGC
website at http://www.texascolorguardcircuit.org.
Winter Guard members are required to attend additional practice times that are held
before school and/or after school. Contests are usually held on Saturdays or Friday
nights at various competing high schools, sometimes out of town-paid for by
families and fundraisers.
Winter Guard has an additional Fair Share Requirement.
