What classes do I register for?

Full Year Instrumental Ensemble or Dance Guard class, plus Marching Band in the fall semester

All Wind and Percussion students have a daily Concert Band Class (Instrumental Ensemble) period. The instrumental ensemble students are selected by audition only and classes are offered the first three periods of the day. Beginning students interested in joining the band program may participate in one of the Concert Bands. During the fall, marching band music is the main focus, and time is spent in sectionals and on individual progression. After Marching Season is over, the focus switches to concert-type music. All classes are offered in the traditional large ensemble setting. All Instrumental Ensembles are offered as a full year fine arts or elective credit.

Dance Guard Members have a daily Dance Class during the normal school day. Dance Guard class will focus on stretching, strengthening, advanced jazz technigues, equipment skills and performance preparation. This is a full year course and counts as a Fine Arts credit and as a PE replacement.

During the fall semester Marching Band season, all members must be registered for Marching Band at Zero Hour and attend Summer Band Camp. All students (dance guard and musicians) are part of the Trojan Marching Band-half year course. Participation in Marching Band during the fall semester equals one-half of a fine arts credit and the PE credit requirement is reduced by half (1.50 PE credits required for graduation).

Anderson offers Optional Spring Semester ensembles such as Jazz Band, Winter Guard, Indoor Drumline and Full Orchestra.

Jazz Ensemble is a half year course and is a Zero-Hour class, so students will have eight classes on their schedule. Classes are after school hours. It is offered in the spring semester as either a Fine Arts or elective credit.

Full Orchestra is a half year course. Full Orchestra is open to selected wind players who are concurrently enrolled in Instrumental Ensemble and is offered as a Zero Hour class for either Fine Arts or elective credit.

Winter Guard is an extra curricular actvity during winter and spring months.

Indoor Drumline meets after school during winter and early spring and is a fine arts or elective credit

Classes are offered and taught by the Trojan Band or Dance Staff. Any student at Anderson may participate in the band program within the audition and rehearsal guidelines established by the directors.

Individual Instruction-Just as the musicians take private lessons and attend music camps, there are Spin Camps and Dance camps. Skills are enhanced by taking advantage of Private Lessons and by participating in opportunities to audition for District/Region/Area/State Bands and Orchestras, as well as Jazz Bands. Individuals may also audition at Solo & Ensemble, qualified players may compete at Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest (TSSEC).

There are, of course, other musical opportunities offered through
the Orchestra, Choir and Theater Depatments.

General Grading Policies and Lettering Requirements
can be found in the Student Handbook.

Does "No Pass, No Play" apply?

Yes-"No Pass, No Play" applies to the entire band. If a student is failing a class, that student may not perform or compete.
