We want to give a warm welcome to Mr. Chris Josey, Anderson’s new Dance Guard Director! Mr. Josey is also the guard director at Westwood (schedules don’t conflict so he will be directing both teams) along with Ms. Kayla Ruiz as Anderson Assistant Dance Guard Director.

Chris Josey is originally from Gainesville, Fl. He moved to Austin, Texas in 2015 and is currently the Color guard director at Westwood High School and newly appointed director of the Anderson High School Guard Program. He has is B.S. in Healthcare Administration from the University of Florida. He was a member of The Magic of Orlando Drum & Bugle Corps as well as a member of Independent world guard, Northeast Independent. He has directed several scholastic and independent programs during his teaching career thus far and truly enjoys what the pageantry arts brings to students. Chris is excited to join the Anderson band & guard family.

MS. KAYLA RUIZ, Assistant Director

Kayla Ruiz has been living in San Marcos, TX for the past five years where she attended Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelors in Communication Studies. She is a South Texas native and went to Sharyland High School located in Mission, TX where she was a member of the colorguard for all four years. Her colorguard career also includes three years of DCI with Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps, three years of collegiate colorguard with the Texas State Bobcat Marching Band Colorguard (where she was captain for two years), and two years of WGI with Origins Winterguard. 

Her teaching experience includes two summers with Pioneer High School (Mission, TX), one year with Thomas Jefferson High School (San Antonio, TX), and three years with Jack C. Hays High School in Buda, TX. Over the years, she has developed a passion for teaching colorguard and wants to inspire the next generation to not just be better performers, but better humans as well.
