Greetings Wind Ensemble!

I am sharing with you a practice guide and my lesson plan so you can see what we are doing day to day and have some help in guiding your practice.  If you are single blocked, this will help you stay caught up with us.  CLICK HERE – WIND ENSEMBLE PLAN.

  1. LISTEN TO RECORDINGS.  You need to be listening to recordings daily.  It doesn’t have to be crazy – but you do need to listen to Southern Harmony once a day.  You can do this while you are driving in the car, taking a walk, doing homework….you name it.  You just need to live with this music to get it stuck in your head.  If your entire family can’t get your band music out of their head = SUCCESS!!!!!
    • Both Quartets and Southern Harmony are available on Youtube OR Spotify.  I like the University of North Texas recordings, but listen to several recordings to develop your own opinions of different interpretations!!
  2. This is my working draft and I will keep it updated a week out.  As we work on things in class I will add practice tips to the right hand column.
  3. This is meant to outline what we work on with you during class and how you can organize your practice so you are not overwhelmed.  During class, as we work through this together, take note of the tricks and rehearsal chunks for your personal practice.  The way we practice and work through this music in class will give you a good guide for at home study.
  4. You do not have to practice HOURS a day…..but doing a small task or two every day….fixing two tiny things and getting several correct repetitions on those small goals will help you to stay on top of your music and not stress out.  This is really great music and the goal is for you to enjoy the learning process and have a product at the end that is a memorable and amazing musical experience.

HAPPY PRACTICING!!!
