Marching Band
Marching Band is a zero-hour course that meets before and after school in the fall-semester-only with a summer band camp starting 3 weeks before school starts. Attendance at summer band, football games, pep rallies, parades and contests is mandatory. The Marching Band consists of all members of the band including Woodwinds, Brass, Battery and Front Ensemble Percussion, and the amazing Anderson Dance Guard. The Marching Band competes in different competitive circuits including UIL, BOA, and US Bands. Fun Fact: Marching Band gets you a fine arts and PE credit!
Concert Band
The Concert ensembles at Anderson include the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. Members of these bands are chosen by audition only. The size of each ensemble is determined by prescribed wind ensemble instrumentation with one player on a part on most instruments. Members of these ensembles should expect to learn technical skills on solos, chamber ensembles and full wind band literature. All bands are double-blocked with a requirement to double-block for Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. It is strongly encouraged to double-block concert band if your schedule allows for it. Private lessons will help your student ALOT and are also highly recommended. Please email a director if you have any scheduling questions or concerns!
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is a traditional jazz big band comprising saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums, and auxiliary percussion).
As with all other bands at Anderson, membership is by audition only and is open to anyone who is currently enrolled in the band program.
Non-band members may audition for rhythm section instruments (piano, bass, or guitar) and may be selected if a suitable band student is not available.
Jazz 1 meets during the school day and is a year-round, two-semester class. Please email Mr. Nedley to discuss enrolling in this class.
Jazz 2 meets after school twice a week starting in November. Sign ups for Jazz 2 will start towards the end of marching band season.
