FAQs

What exactly has to happen for mulch delivery?

We have over 5,000 bags of mulch to deliver within the Anderson attendance zone. That’s 40 routes out for delivery over the course of 1-1/2 days. Another 400+ bags will be picked up by customers at the school on Saturday.

Students have a sign-up sheet at school and they will be there either on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning/afternoon. Students are encouraged to sign up in sections so they can have fun working together! Parents, you are offered a choice of morning or afternoon shifts, but you are encouraged to sign up for both and spend the day with us!

Friday afternoon we hope to run 8 routes near the school and then load the trucks up for Saturday morning.

On Saturday all U-hauls will deliver 2 routes in the morning, we’ll break for lunch, and then deliver 2 more routes in the afternoon.

How do I know when to pick up my child?

Mulch delivery is like marching competitions or flamingo-ing—it’s over when it’s over. Our best advice is that your child should let you know when they have finished their last route and are heading back to the band hall. How long it takes to deliver a route depends on how fast the kids work at each house, how much driving time is between stops, how chatty the homeowner wants to be with the kids, etc. Otherwise make sure your notifications for the BAND app are turned on and someone will announce when all routes have been delivered.

Where do we need the most parent assistance?

  • U-Haul drivers and follow car drivers: We cannot do this without parents driving. You do not have to haul mulch (unless you want to) because the students will do all the heavy lifting.
  • Return trucks: If you are able to stay after routes are completed, please drive trucks back to the U-Haul rental facility off 183/Burnet Rd. Let Thanh know if you can do this.
  • Friday: If you are willing to volunteer but have other commitments on Saturday, please consider helping out on Friday by picking up a U-Haul during your lunch hour, or driving a U-haul or a follow-car in the afternoon. What doesn’t get done on Friday will just make Saturday a longer day. We are doing 8 routes so the more parents who sign up on Friday, the quicker we will be done. We will deliver to customers around the Anderson/Murchison area so all those routes are nearby.
